Man And Van Hire: A Cheaper Alternative To Expensive Removal Companies

Generally specialising in small removals, a man and a van team could be just what you need to help you with your house move. However, scoping out the best company isn’t always as straightforward as it may seem. There are plenty of things to consider; the cost of the removal service, the amount of items you need moving, the distance to your new house etc. Take these factors into account when moving house and looking for a removal company and enjoy the best possible experience whilst taking the strain and hassle out of moving day.

1.    Do your research.
Don’t just settle for the first company you come across. Spend some time and search around for a man and van. Make sure you read through their testimonials page, or even better, try and find a company via recommendations from friends or family.

2.    Ask questions!
Don’t feel shy about asking as many questions as you need to. After all, you are going to be giving them your hard earned money and entrusting them with your possessions, so ask away and decipher as much as possible and find out what their really about. Some questions that you may wish to consider asking are: what type of insurance cover they offer? Do they have any references they can supply you with? How they plan on securing items in their van so that they remain undamaged during their transportation?

3.    Describe the size of the task to them.
When you call up a company, ensure you tell them what needs moving. Make them aware of any large items of furniture that you may have and if you can, give them some measurements to work with. They will then be able to tell you whether or not your furniture will fit in the back of their vans, and if all’s well and good, you can then progress from there.

4.    Sign on the dotted line.
If and when everything’s agreed, you’ve found a company for your moving requirements and are happy to proceed, make sure you get a signed agreement detailing all the terms and conditions of your move and what has been spoken about. Ensure the pricing is correct, and there are no hidden charges that you haven’t been made aware of. If hiring a man with a van, the service is likely to be cheap and cheerful, but that won’t prevent some companies trying to take you for a ride, so look over everything thoroughly before you sign and make a firm decision.

5.    Be wary of cowboy companies and look for professional and well reputed house movers.
There are plenty of well established companies out there and these are the ones that you should be looking to seek out. But at the same time there are a lot of bogus companies that are after one thing; cold hard cash and will do anything to get it, including delivering you with a substandard service. There are companies that will agree to take on your task, but then palm you off to a local handyman that may have helped with a house move once or twice. You certainly don’t want this happening to you, because at the end of the day, it is your possessions that are at risk of damage, or even possibly theft.  Look for professionals that specialise in your type of move, even if it means spending a little bit of extra money; it’ll be worth it when the job gets completed to a standard that you’re satisfied with.
