France Removals Health and Safety Policy
France Removals is committed to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety for our employees, customers, contractors and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. This policy sets out our principles and arrangements for managing health and safety in all removal, packing, storage and transportation operations carried out within our service areas.
Policy Statement and Objectives
The primary objective of this Health and Safety Policy is to prevent injury, ill health, property damage and environmental harm arising from our work. We aim to provide a safe and healthy working environment, ensure safe systems of work and foster a culture in which health and safety is an integral part of every task.
To achieve these objectives, France Removals will identify, assess and control risks associated with removals work, handling and transporting goods, operating vehicles, using equipment, and working at or around customers premises. We will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation, regulations and codes of practice applicable to our operations.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management is responsible for providing effective leadership on health and safety and for ensuring that this policy is implemented, monitored and reviewed regularly. Management will allocate adequate resources, including time, equipment and training, to support safe working practices across all removal and relocation services.
Managers and supervisors are required to ensure that risk assessments are carried out for all key activities, that control measures are put in place and maintained, and that staff are fully briefed on safe working procedures. They are also responsible for investigating accidents, incidents and near misses, and for implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. Staff must follow company procedures, use equipment correctly, wear any required personal protective equipment and report hazards, accidents or near misses without delay.
Employees must co-operate with management in implementing this policy and contribute to maintaining a safe and tidy working environment in vehicles, depots and customers premises. Any misuse of equipment, unsafe behaviour or deliberate breach of safety rules will be treated as a serious matter.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
France Removals carries out systematic risk assessments for typical removal tasks including lifting and carrying furniture and boxes, dismantling and assembling items, using trolleys and lifting aids, driving and loading vehicles, and working in confined or restricted spaces such as stairwells and corridors.
Based on these assessments we develop safe systems of work that cover planning of moves, route selection, parking and access, segregation of work areas, and communication between team members. Staff are instructed to stop work if they consider a situation unsafe and to seek further guidance from a supervisor.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a significant part of removal work and is carefully controlled to minimise the risk of injury. Our teams are trained in correct lifting techniques, team lifting, use of mechanical aids and recognition of personal limits. Loads are assessed before movement, and staff are instructed not to attempt to move items that are too heavy or awkward without sufficient assistance or equipment.
We provide appropriate handling equipment such as sack trucks, dollies, straps and protective covers. All equipment is maintained in good condition and inspected regularly. Defective equipment must be taken out of use immediately and reported to management.
Vehicles, Driving and Road Safety
France Removals operates vehicles that are suitable for the nature and scale of our removal services. Vehicles are regularly serviced and checked to ensure they are roadworthy and safe. Drivers must hold the appropriate valid licence and are required to follow all road safety laws and company driving guidelines.
We emphasise defensive driving, reasonable journey planning and safe loading and unloading practices. Loads are secured to prevent movement in transit, and access to loading areas is managed to protect staff, customers and the public from moving vehicles or falling items.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
Our teams take care to protect customers property and ensure the safety of everyone present during a move. We assess access routes, stairs and doorways, and identify any hazards such as uneven surfaces or restricted spaces before work begins.
Where possible, we establish clear work areas, minimise trip hazards from packing materials and equipment, and communicate with customers about safe access during the move. Extra care is taken in communal areas, on public pavements and near roads to prevent obstruction and reduce the risk of accidents.
Training, Information and Supervision
France Removals provides ongoing training and instruction so that all employees understand the risks in their work and know how to carry out tasks safely. This includes induction training for new staff, task-specific training for removals and driving, and refresher training as required.
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for ensuring that less experienced staff are properly supervised and supported on site. Health and safety information, including procedures and guidance, is made available to employees in a clear and accessible form.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, injuries and near misses must be reported as soon as practicable. France Removals investigates these events to identify causes and implement improvements. First aid provision is arranged in line with our operations, and staff are informed of procedures for obtaining assistance.
Emergency arrangements, including fire safety and evacuation procedures at depots and offices, are clearly communicated. When working at customer locations, our teams follow any site-specific emergency instructions and ensure exits and escape routes are not obstructed by removal activities.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety Policy is monitored through regular inspections, review of incident reports, feedback from employees and periodic management review. We aim for continuous improvement in our safety performance and will update procedures and training in line with operational changes, legal requirements and best practice.
France Removals expects all employees and contractors to support the implementation of this policy and to contribute actively to maintaining a safe, professional and responsible removal service across all areas in which we operate.
